EDC Performs in DC's Dance Sampler

This past weekend Equinox Dance Company took a trip to our nation's capital to perform in Jane Franklin Dance's Dance Sampler at the Woolley Mammoth Theatre. Dance Sampler celebrated the Washington, D.C., dance community with a showcase of works by six choreographers/companies.

EDC performed Constant Routine choreographed by Sandra Atkinson. The 2-part dance explored quick, mechanically repeated routine movement paired with a more fluid movement that expressed a sense of slowing down to enjoy life a bit more. Other performances included:  the nationally known Claire Porter with a comedic movement monologue called Happen Chance; James Madison University faculty member Shane O'Hara's Skating on Thin Ice about Occupy Wall Street; Jane Franklin's newest media/dance project; Baltimore choreographer Alice Howes' investigation of gesture; and a work originally set in Knoxville by Wayles Haynes.

We were thrilled to be included in Dance Sampler and enjoyed the lovely  Spring day in Washington, DC! Be sure to join us at our 10-year anniversary Annual Spring Performance on April 20 & 21 to see us perform Constant Routine as well as many of our other favorite dances!

The Company grabs a quick lunch and enjoys the Spring weather!

EDC Learns to Fly!

Equinox Dance Company members took an aerial dance class with local company, Updraft, Inc. this past December. We'd like to thank Therese and Lizard for their help, expert and endless patience as our dancers learned how to "dance" in the air. What an amazing experience!

Since 2003, Updraft has paired conscious art-making with a commitment to a joyful process and aesthetic. Updraft creates and presents professional aerial dance theater reflecting vital themes in the lives of individuals and communities. Additionally, Updraft works in conjunction with communities and community organizations to create informational materials regarding critical social and environmental justice issues.

And the best thing is that Updraft now offers classes in the Frederick region! For more information, a schedule of classes and/or events, please visit www.updraft.org.

Equinox Dance Company Presents “Regard/React” in Response to Sculpture at Artomatic

Equinox Dance Company is thrilled to perform, "Regard/React" on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:30 followed by a master class at 7pm at Artomatic Frederick. Performance will take place in the sculpture garden on the fourth floor at Artomatic (located at 115 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland). The audience will follow the performers around the fourth floor, as EDC explores the use of space around, under and in front of the artwork. The master class at 7pm is for all ages and levels. Participants will work on creating their own movement that relates to the sculpture pieces. The event is free and open to the public.

During the show, audience members will get to move around as each dance takes place in a different location on the fourth floor. Equinox will use dance to explore the desire to feel a sculpture and use their bodies to express the lines and shapes they see. Sculptures that inspired the performance are by Luc Fiedler, Michael Judd, Michael Winger and Homer Yost. The show includes site-specific choreography from EDC Artistic Director Andie Ligon, and works by Sandra Atkinson and Kristie Genovese.

It is sure to be a wonderful, unique evening of art and dance combined! We hope to see you there!
