Artisans Market this Weekend!



Equinox is very excited for our upcoming In-Home Artisan's Market on Saturday, November 20th from 1-5pm! The Market will feature unique, hand-made gifts from some of our finest local (and not so local) artists and crafters, plus attendees will have a chance to listen to soothing acoustic music and enjoy seated massages (on a first come, first serve basis, additional fees will apply).

EDC's First Annual In-Home Artisan's Market


Equinox Dance Company is pleased to host our first-ever Annual In-Home Artisan's Market on Saturday, November 20 from 1-5pm! We've gathered some of the Frederick-area's most talented artisans and crafters for a cozy and quaint one-stop shopping experience. Start your holiday shopping with unique hand-crafted items while helping to raise funds for our nonprofit arts organization. It doesn’t get any better!

Grab your girlfriends for a fun, quaint, and unique holiday shopping experience (or buy something for yourself…we'll never tell!). Featuring hand-made crafts from local artisans including jewelry, scarves, knit hats, totes, purses, photography, mixed media, candles, bath & body products,and more. Plus, seated massages, live acoustic music, free light hors d’oeuvres and drinks will also be available for all attendees. Partial proceeds from all sales will go to Equinox Dance Company.

"Funds for Friends" benefiting Equinox Dance Company!!


Stop by the Frederick Greene Turtle on Tuesday, September 14th (from 11am until close) to help Equinox Dance Company raise money for their upcoming season. Enjoy great food and beverages while aiding Frederick's own adult modern dance company. 10% of Tuesday's proceeds for the entire day will be donated to Equinox Dance Company.

Events of the day include raffle drawings (with some great prizes), activities for the kids and entertainment!!

Think You Can Dance? Company Auditions & Free Dance Classes



Equinox Dance Company (EDC) will hold auditions for new company members on Sunday, August 8 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. at The Cultural Arts Center, located at 15 West Patrick St. in Frederick MD. Prior to the auditions, the company will host free modern dance classes at the same location on Saturday, August 7 for both children and adults. The children’s class, for ages 7 and up, will take place from 5-5:45pm and the adult class will take place from 6-7:30 pm. All classes will include modern dance technique, all levels welcome.

The free dance class if offered by EDC’s artistic director, Andrea Ligon. Ligon is a DC based professional dancer and choreographer. “I look forward to meeting dancers from the community. We have an exciting year planned for EDC including more free educational shows, site specific performances in Frederick and more.”

Auditionees and class participants should come prepared to dance, wearing proper shoes and attire. Proper attire includes loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, no shoes are required. It is suggested that participating dancers arrive approximately 15 minutes early.

The company auditions held on Sunday will consist of modern and jazz combinations, as well as a brief tap combination for those interested. EDC recommends, but does not require, dancers come prepared with a short movement piece to show style and choreographic skills—please provide your own music. All auditionees must be 18 years or older.

EDC to perform at the 17th Annual Frederick Festival of the Arts



The 17th annual Frederick Festival of the Arts will take place this weekend, June 5th and 6th, along Carroll Creek in downtown Frederick. The Equinox Dance Company will be performing free modern dance pieces from this year's repertory - "Jumping Off Point" on Sunday, June 6th at noon. EDC will also be teaching free dance classes throughout the duration of the weekend. These events will all be taking place along the Carroll Creek suspension bridge.

EDC will also have a table located under the Carroll Creek bridge on Saturday between 10am-4pm and Sunday between 11am-3pm. See below for an entire listing of free EDC dance events.

Come out this weekend and enjoy food, entertainment and of course, the ARTS!!!

EDC to perform at the Baker Park Bell Tower

Do you enjoy being outdoors? Do you enjoy modern dance?
Why not combine the two.

On Saturday, May 22nd, EDC will perform at the Baker Park Bell Tower in downtown Frederick. The free performance starts at 4pm and the dance ensemble will creatively weave the audience throughout the park through means of modern dance.

Mark Your Calendars for Equinox's 8th Annual Spring Performances


Equinox will present their 8th annual full-length spring performance, showcasing all new pieces ranging in styles from modern to tap to jazz. Guest choreographers include: Sandra Atkinson, Laurie Newton and Kristie Genovese and resident EDC choreographers include: Andrea Ligon, Kimberly Dow, Pat Burns, Chrissa Dockendorf, Rebecca Rolnick and Aileen Geraghty. Saturday's matinee performance will debut the EDC Youth Dance Outreach Project illustrating their 6 week accumulation of modern dance technique and improvisation, as well as a guest performance from the Montgomery College dance company. Friday and Saturday evening performances will include guest performers from Dance Unlimited and Kristie Genovese.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and are on sale NOW!

Free Youth Dance Outreach Project

Equinox is proud to announce our first ever Free Youth Dance Outreach Project!

Six weeks of classes in modern dance technique and dance improvisation culminating in a performance with the company in our big spring show. Artistic director, Andie Ligon, will use movement created by the students to create a fun performance piece. Students will have the chance to meet the company dancers, dance with them and participate in a professional show. The cost is free but students need to attend all of the classes and the show! Classes will be held in the gallery studio space at the Cultural Arts Center.*

Class dates: March 7th through April 18th on Sundays from 3-4pm (off on Easter, the weekend of 3/27 will rehearse on Saturday instead of Sunday)

Performance Date: Saturday April 24th at 2pm (students need to arrive at 12:30 in order to run the piece onstage before the performance).

A raffle was held at EDC's Annual Children's Benefit Show - "Dreaming Up Dances" - on Saturday, February 20th. Contestants were in the running for free tickets to EDC's Annual Spring Performance, which will be held on April 23rd and 24th.

Dreaming Up Dances: Annual Children's Show


On Saturday, February 20, Equinox will perform a fun, family-oriented performance, geared toward children. Audience members will participate in the show while learning how a dance is created and how it makes it's way to the stage. Children age 6 and up are invited to stay for a dance workshop at the end of the show. Ticket's are $5 donation, with proceeds benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Performances at 1:00 & 4:00 pm (Performance is appx 1 hour). Tickets available at the door only, on a first come, first served basis.

Both performances will be held in the black box theater of the Cultural Arts Center in downtown Frederick, located at 15 West Patrick Street, Frederick MD.

Performance at the National Theater


Equinox Dance Company is excited and honored to present two free shows at the National Theater in downtown Washington, DC: Monday, February 8th at 6pm and 7:30. Two 50-minute, animated performances for family audiences in the Helen Hayes Gallery.

Audience members should expect an eclectic mix of exciting modern dance, jazz and tap. EDC's choreography collective brings multiple voices to the stage with works from many up-and-coming choreographers. Debuting Cogworks - an honestly bizarre interpretation of the daily grind; New Day, a powerful modern piece examining the strength of women worldwide and Mercy a show-stopping tap number that won't leave you begging for anything. In the intimate and beautiful historic Helen Hayes Gallery, EDC will transport you through a series of dances and even physically transport you around the gallery for a surprise ending.

Please arrive 30 minutes before the show to receive a ticket. Tickets are handed out - one per person - on a first come, first served basis.

Please stay for a few minutes after the show for a talk back and to meet the company.

Frederick's First Saturday

Join EDC at Frederick's First Saturday event in the Cultural Arts Center's Black Box Theater for an evening of live dance demonstrations and workshops for children and adults. This event coincides with Frederick's 2010 Fire and Ice event and the Cultural Arts Center's indoor arts and craft market.

This event is free to attend and open to the public.

Calling All Ladies...EDC Clothes Swap Fundraiser!

Calling all ladies...Looking for some new clothes but don't want to spend a lot of money!? Come to Equinox's Women's Clothes Swap on Saturday, January 30 for just $5. All clothes will be new or gently worn.

Event Details:

Date/Time: Saturday, January 30 from 12:00pm-3pm

Location: 8311 Edgewood Church Rd, Frederick, MD

Cost: $5 buy-in (with a minimum of 5 quality items) or $10 (with less than 5 quality items)

Definition: "Quality items" = Gently used clothes. No holes or missing buttons please. (think consignment shop quality or better!) Only women's clothing will be accepted.

How it works: You will have 1 hour to browse through all the clothes and try on pieces, if needed. When we're ready to start the "SWAP", each participant will get a number to decide who will go first. We'll go numerically and one-by-one you choose the clothes you want until left-over clothes are no longer wanted. The leftovers will be donated to EDC for the Spring Yardsale. (unless otherwise requested)

Join us, it should be a great time! Light food and drinks will be provided. Please feel free invite all your girlfriends, moms, co-workers, etc...the more the merrier (and the better clothes selection!)! RSVP to Kim Dow, the coordinator.
